New guidelines for the Register of Deeds

In order to protect the public and our staff beginning March 23, 2020, there will be changes to County operations. The County Administration building is closed to the public. Real Estate recordings may be dropped off in the drop box outside the front door or mailed directly to us at PO Box 386, Tarboro, NC 27886. If using the drop box outside, please enclose your documents in some type of envelope to ensure all documents stay together with the fee for recording. Our office is issuing Marriage License by appointment only along with Notary Commission Renewals. Please call 252-641-7924 for a list of documentation to bring in order to obtain a marriage license and the items needed for Notary Renewal

The mission of the Edgecombe County Register of Deeds is to record and maintain births, deaths, marriages, service discharges, notaries, maps and all consolidated real estate transactions.

We are governed by three state agencies: the Legislature, the Secretary of State and North Carolina Vital Records. The Institute of Government advises us with any questions that may arise.

We assist attorneys, land surveyors, realtors, ministers, funeral homes, genealogists, and the general public. Our goal is to always provide prompt, professional service with a smile!
